Why You Should Think Twice About Moving to Ibiza
It’s like deciding between the red and blue pill. Are you sure you are ready for it?

I’ve been living on the island for 7 years and when asked many times with a sort of hidden envy: Do you love it here? I always think to myself, if only you knew, and answer with a deep sigh: It’s a love-hate relationship.
Yes, I do love Ibiza. I love the nature. I love the weather, the sea, forests. I love the freedom and crazy opportunities it has to offer. I love the lifestyle. I love a lot of the people here (not all of them, because some are too crazy even for me) and above all, I love who Ibiza is helping me to become.
Still, I thought I owe it to the people who are hypnotized by the idea of moving here, to at least give them a little heads up warning.
Ibiza is not an easy place. You will be challenged. On many levels. Those challenges will make you grow in a way you probably least expect.
It will feel like dying a lot of the time. You will be confronted with your shit daily, pulled in a thousand directions all at once. You will be forced to stay centered, become discerning and to own your truth. You will be tested and just when you think you have passed the test, Ibiza will pull the rug from under your feet just to make sure you really got it.
But don’t worry, there will be plenty of moments of bliss and illumination, of ecstasy and freedom, magic synchronicity and opportunity to make it worthwhile. The price will be high but when you are willing to pay, you will get exactly what you asked for.

It may sound dramatic, but if you ask the people living here, you will get this answer 80% of the time. Of course, it all depends on you. Some people come here and align completely with the energy of the island, get in full flow…and maybe for them, it’s easy most of the time.
But for us mere mortals, Ibiza has its energy of extreme polarities to deal with. The polarity of the super busy summer and the very quiet winter. The polarity between the south and north. The polarity between the rich and the people who are struggling to make a living (especially in winter). The polarity between the super conscious and those who only come here to consume. The polarity between the Ibizenc and the Expats. It’s definitely not a place to get bored.
I see it a little bit like a pressure-cooker that helps you to become a diamond. The process can be very uncomfortable, the result absolutely brilliant. Again, it depends on you and what you bring to the table. How flexible are you? How well do you really know yourself? How willing are you to put in the effort necessary to follow your dreams?
All those things you will find out about yourself. It’s like an accelerated degree in (spiritual) maturity. Ibiza will show you if your ideas are not based on reality, if they are merely illusions and projections. She will first lure you in with enticing promises, then swallow you up completely, take you on a magic rollercoaster ride and just when you thought you had it all, spit you out and ground the hell out of you, till you become human again.
But don’t worry. If she is calling you, you are meant for the ride. Take the red pill and see. Just like Neo, you will find out your superpowers. Except they might not be what you thought them to be. They might have less to do with speaking to angels or communing with ascended masters and making lots of money running retreats, but more with grounding and understanding your role in the world. Your superpower might as well become the realization that you are not special at all, just a normal human trying to get by, like all the rest.
So if you are willing to go for the ride with no return, come, come, come. We want you here, with your new ideas, excitement, innocence and your fresh blood. We will hold your hand, just please, don’t complain that you haven’t been warned. That’s all. Welcome to the island!
